- Hi there...
-
- I hope your not expecting volumes of documentation here. I mean, I wrote
- this program for myself but I am uploading it for the rest of the world
- to use 'cause I'm such a super-special-kinda-guy ;) But, I just don't
- have the time to write a full-blown doc file; I do have a Calculus
- exam tomorrow...
-
- LEGAL STUFF: AminNavi is free, Free, or FREE.
-
- REGISTERING: Don't even think about it! Send me some E-Mail or something.
-
- DISCLAIMER: Use this program at your own risk. If the world happens to
- end while your using AmiNavi, don't come crying to me.
-
-
-
- What is AmiNavi??
- Good question! It's a very simple directory utility designed with
- the Aminet CD-ROM in mind. It's not one of those overblown file
- listers with eight-zillion totally configurable gadgets that takes
- a year or two to learn how to use. You should have AmiNavi up and
- running in about two minutes. NOTE: though designed for the Aminet
- CD-ROM, AmiNavi will work on any disk.
-
- Why AmiNavi?
- Well, as cool as the Aminet CD-ROM is, it's a bit overwhelming to
- play around with if your not a CLI-oriented person. So, AmiNavi will
- help you look for files and de-archive the cool ones.
-
- Installation.
- Copy the AmiNavi file to any drawer your heart desires.
-
- Usage.
- On the AmiNavi main screen you'll find the following items:
-
- 1. The File Lister - A simple file lister-type-thing. Directories
- are preceeded with "<DIR>", volumes have "<VOLUME>", and
- assigns get a "<ASSIGN>". Files have nothing (poor guys).
- To move down through the directory tree click once on a volume,
- directory, or assign. To move back up the tree click the little
- gadget below the file scroll bar that has a "/" in it.
- Click on a file and it becomes the "selected file".
-
- 2. The Text Lister - This is a simple little text display.
-
- 3. The Ouput Gadget - This shows where de-archived files will go.
-
- 4. The Un-Cruch Gadget - This will de-archive the "selected file".
-
- 5. The Index Gadget - this will type the "Index" file in the
- current directory - if there is one.
-
- 6. The List Gadget - this will display a text file in the Text
- Lister.
-
- 7. The Lock Gadget - this will lock the Text Lister - nothing
- will be typed in it until you unlock it.
-
- 8. The Find-O-File Gadgets - the button gadget will use the word
- in the string gadget to find files with that word in its name
- or description.
-
- Menus.
- AmiNavi has one menu that has five items:
-
- 1. Defaults - this opens the Defaults window.
-
- 2. About... - reveals all the secrets of the universe.
-
- 3. Make Dir - Lets you create a directory...somewhere.
-
- 4. Tree - Prints the directory structure of a disk (kinda slow!).
-
- 5. Quit - Take a wild guess....
-
- The Defaults Window.
- I can only assume that not everyone in this world is exactly like
- me. Thus, I left a few options so you can customize AmiNavi to your
- needs. Your options are:
-
- Option Description Default
- ------ ----------- -------
- "Def Path" Path searched at start-up "CD0:Aminet"
- "Output Path" Place decrunched files go "RAM:"
- "Find File" Search database file "CD0:INDEX"
- ".lzh Decompress" | "CD0:Tools/lha -x -a x"
- ".lha Decompress" | "CD0:Tools/lha -x -a x"
- ".dms Decompress" | Decrunch programs "CD0:Tools/dms write"
- ".zoo Decompress" | "CD0:Tools/zoo x"
- ".arc Decompress" | "<<Unknown>"
-
- You can change any of these options. Example - if you copy the
- decrunch programs to a fast hard disk, those operations will go
- much faster.
- Notes on "Find File" - AmiNavi will search this file for matches with
- the Find File string (entered on the main screen). If you have CD-ROM
- as slow as mine (it makes watching paint dry exhilerating), then you
- could copy the "Find File" (CD0:INDEX) to a hard disk or ram disk,
- which speeds up searches immensely.
-
- (I left all this configurable because future versions of the disk might
- be set up differently).
-
- Other options:
- Screen Mode: you've got four choices...
- NTSC - 640 x 200
- NTSC_LACE - 640 x 400
- PAL - 640 x 256
- PAL_LACE - 640 x 512
-
- Don't Show: don't display these files in the File Lister
- #?.info - who needs 'em?
- #?.readme - can be made "automatic"
-
- Auto-type text files: if this is enabled two things will happen:
- 1. When you select a file that has an accompanying .readme file
- the .readme file will automatically be typed in the Text
- Lister
- 2. Also, any files with these extensions will be automatically
- typed: "index", "txt", "bbs", or "tbl".
-
- Save, Use, Cancel:
- To make the settings permanent, click save.
- To make the temporary, click use.
- To forget the whole thing, click cancel.
-
- BUGS:
- 1. Okay, so the alphabetizing routine that the File Lister uses isn't
- exactly perfect. But hey, it's fast.
- 2. When you decrunch a file, an interactive console window is opened.
- I leave it up to the user (that's you) to close this console window.
- If you try to quit AmiNavi with a console window still open, the
- program will lock. Sollution: close all console windows!!!
-
- ...my fingers are getting tired :(
-
- Enjoy.
